Technical Program Manager – Research

About the role

Anthropic is building reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. As a Technical Program Manager for Research, you will design and launch programs that enable cutting‑edge AI research across compute, evaluation, reinforcement‑learning environments, and emerging initiatives. You will work closely with researchers to identify high‑impact opportunities and create the processes, tooling, and resources they need to focus on science.

Key responsibilities

• Embed deeply within research domains to understand technical landscapes, build trust, and surface high‑leverage problems.
• Move fluidly across areas such as compute, evals, RL environments, and new research initiatives, gaining depth quickly.
• Drive end‑to‑end execution of complex, ambiguous research projects spanning multiple teams.
• Establish processes and frameworks that add structure without slowing researchers.
• Lead large‑scale compute resource planning, allocation, efficiency, and prioritization.
• Standardize evaluation readiness for model launches and ensure transparent reporting.
• Own operational health of RL environments, coordinate trade‑offs, and feed insights into roadmap planning.
• Provide research leadership with deep technical analysis and clear, actionable recommendations.
• Act as connective tissue between research, engineering, and product teams to accelerate execution.

Required profile

• Background in machine‑learning research or engineering.
• Several years of experience building technical programs from scratch.
• Proven ability to work closely with researchers and technical leaders.
• Comfort with ambiguous, fast‑changing priorities and incident response.
