Technical Grower

About the role

Driscoll’s is seeking a Technical Grower to support its research farms in Watsonville, CA. The role focuses on implementing new technologies, managing irrigation and fertility programs, and ensuring high‑quality berry crops for breeding and research trials.

Key responsibilities

• Lead development and implementation of new agronomic technologies on R&D substrate test plots.
• Oversee agronomy for raspberry, blackberry and blueberry crops, including recipe review and fertility program design.
• Collect and analyze monthly water and tissue samples to maintain target EC, pH and nutrient levels.
• Manage and optimize the advanced PRIVA irrigation system and related data monitoring.
• Coordinate pest and disease scouting, chemical applications and work with the pesticide supervisor.
• Supervise a team of technicians, providing guidance on irrigation, fertility decisions and daily tasks.
• Oversee tractor and forklift operations and ensure proper equipment maintenance.
• Track farming expenses, follow budgets and lead vendor selection for new technology purchases.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Horticulture, Plant Science, Biology, Agricultural Business or related field.
• 3+ years of hands‑on experience with berry crop production, agronomy and plant physiology.
• Strong understanding of plant genetics, pest/disease management and fertilizer nutrition.
