Teaching Assistant

About the role

The Teaching Assistant supports scholars in achieving their academic and behavioral goals within Maya Angelou Schools. This role involves active classroom assistance, one‑on‑one tutoring, and serving as the primary onsite substitute teacher.

Key responsibilities

• Provide academic support in general or special education classrooms.
• Assist scholars in computer‑based classes according to individual schedules.
• Deliver instructional and behavioral support to students.
• Handle classroom administrative tasks.
• Attend all Instructional and Special Education Team meetings.
• Support special‑education teachers in meeting diverse learner needs.
• Lead small‑group instruction sessions.
• Participate in school activities such as retreats, family days, and celebrations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field (preferred).
• Experience working with at‑risk youth in an educational setting.
• Ability to motivate others and collaborate within a team.
• Strong critical‑thinking and analytical abilities.
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
