Tax Specialist – VITA Program (Short‑term)

About the role

The International Rescue Committee is seeking a Tax Specialist to lead its Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) site in the San Diego area for the 2025 tax season. This short‑term, full‑time position runs from December 15, 2024 to April 15, 2025 and supports low‑income individuals and families in obtaining free tax preparation services.

Key responsibilities

• Manage day‑to‑day operations of the VITA site during the January‑April tax season.
• Provide leadership and technical support to volunteer tax preparers.
• Review documentation, complete and electronically file tax returns in compliance with IRS procedures.
• Schedule client appointments and deliver high‑quality customer service.
• Conduct quality reviews and ensure accurate filing of refunds.
• Complete IRS Link and Learn Advanced training and Site Coordinator Training.
• Participate in partner VITA trainings and EITC coalition meetings.
• Recruit, train, and prepare volunteers for the tax season.
• Assist with marketing and outreach initiatives for the VITA program.
