Tax Auditor III

About the role

The Division of Alcoholic Beverages & Tobacco in Florida seeks a Tax Auditor III to conduct independent audits of licensed manufacturers, distributors, and retailers of alcoholic beverages and tobacco products. The role involves reviewing source documents, accounting records, and product movement to ensure accurate tax collection and compliance with state statutes.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and execute independent audits of licensees, including inventory counts for alcohol, tobacco, and cigarettes.
• Analyze transaction records, verify mathematical accuracy of monthly reports, and cross‑reference product movement with tax payments.
• Assist senior auditors on complex audits and perform duties of Tax Auditor I when needed.
• Conduct desk audits of monthly tax reports for completeness and correctness.
• Audit division assets such as fixed assets, seized evidence, cigarette tax stamps, and petty cash.
• Train junior auditors on auditing techniques, documentation standards, and relevant statutes.
• Document and witness the destruction of damaged or spoiled products and tax stamps.
• Complete special projects and additional tasks as assigned.

Required profile

• Knowledge of accounting or auditing methods, principles, and procedures.
• Ability to verify mathematical accuracy of tax reports and perform detailed record analysis.
• Experience with inventory verification and asset auditing.
• Capability to train and mentor less experienced auditors.
