About the role
Applied Materials is seeking a Systems Engineer IV to lead the development of its next‑generation copper electrochemical deposition (ECD) platform. The role combines mechanical, electrical, controls, automation and chemistry expertise to deliver high‑performance wet‑chemical tools for semiconductor manufacturing.
Key responsibilities
- Technically lead end‑to‑end engineering projects for the copper ECD platform, covering wafer handling, plating chambers, fluid delivery, chemistry, controls and automation.
- De‑construct on‑wafer performance requirements into system design specifications and collaborate with cross‑functional teams to implement solutions.
- Own system‑level issue resolution, interface management, and risk mitigation across mechanical, electrical, controls and software domains.
- Drive tool bring‑up, debugging, integration testing and qualification to meet throughput, uptime and on‑wafer performance targets.
Required profile
- Master’s or PhD in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline with 7+ years of semiconductor equipment development experience (or equivalent Bachelor’s plus experience).
- Proven track record of leading root‑cause investigations, tool bring‑up and integration testing on complex capital equipment.
- Strong communication skills to align cross‑functional teams and present technical status to management.
Required skills
- 3D CAD using UG NX or equivalent.
- Statistical analysis with JMP and Microsoft Excel.
- Engineering simulation tools such as ANSYS, CFD‑Ace, COMSOL, or similar.
- Experience integrating mechanical, electrical, controls and software subsystems on wet‑process or electrochemical equipment.
- Use of PLM systems (e.g., Teamcenter) for documentation and release management.
