Systems Administrator, Lead (Linux/Windows)

About the role

AMERICAN SYSTEMS is seeking a Lead Systems Administrator to support a Special Access Program in Arlington, VA. You will own and optimize enterprise Linux and Windows infrastructure across multiple datacenters, partner with cybersecurity and engineering teams, and provide Tier III support for mission‑critical systems.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain on‑premises Linux (≈60%) and Windows (≈40%) infrastructure and applications.
• Support vSphere virtualization across several datacenters.
• Provide Tier III production and development support, handling tickets from submission to resolution.
• Monitor resource availability, ensuring sufficient hardware, software, and throughput.
• Analyze system performance, apply corrective actions, and optimize for peak efficiency.
• Review logs, verify scheduled tasks and backups, and manage user accounts, groups, and permissions.
• Maintain local Linux repositories and support Oracle database appliances.
• Develop and maintain Bash scripts for automation and system maintenance.
• Administer DNS and document system administration solutions.

Required profile

• Active TOP SECRET clearance with SCI eligibility (PAR required after hire).
• Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field or equivalent experience.
• 8‑10 years of IT systems administration, including 3‑5 years focused on Linux.
• DoD 8140 IAT Level II certification (e.g., Security+ CE or equivalent).
• Experience designing and maintaining secure, scalable cloud/on‑prem platforms (IL5–IL6+).
• Knowledge of STIGs, RMF, and DoW cybersecurity standards.
