Systems Administrator

About the role

GDIT is looking for a skilled Systems Administrator to join its IT Infrastructure and Operations team. This mid‑level position will support and optimize critical servers, operating systems and related services.

Key responsibilities

• Install, configure and maintain servers, Windows or Linux operating systems, applications and hardware.
• Proactively monitor system performance and identify potential issues.
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical problems, escalating complex issues when necessary.
• Implement and maintain security measures such as firewalls, antivirus software and intrusion detection systems.
• Perform regular system backups and recovery procedures.
• Manage user accounts, permissions and access controls.
• Automate routine tasks using PowerShell, Bash or Python scripting.
• Document system configurations, procedures and troubleshooting steps.
• Collaborate with other IT teams on projects and initiatives.
• Research and recommend new technologies to improve performance and security.
• Contribute to IT documentation and knowledge‑base articles.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field, or equivalent experience.
• 3‑5 years of experience in system administration.
• Active Secret clearance and U.S. citizenship.
• Security+ or equivalent DoD 8140 certification.
• Preferred certifications: MCSA, MCSE, RHCSA, RHCE.
