Systems Administrator – AWS GovCloud (U.S. Air Force)

About the role

MetroStar is looking for a Systems Administrator to support a U.S. Air Force customer in a fully remote capacity. You will manage and secure enterprise IT systems hosted in AWS GovCloud, ensuring they meet strict DoD cybersecurity standards and remain highly available for mission‑critical operations.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor health, performance, and availability of AWS‑hosted Linux and Windows servers, responding to alerts before they affect operations.
• Perform routine system administration tasks such as patch management, software updates, vulnerability remediation, and system maintenance.
• Harden servers and applications to DISA STIG requirements and maintain secure baselines.
• Review vulnerability scan results, develop remediation plans and POA&Ms, and coordinate corrective actions.
• Support RMF activities by collecting compliance evidence and documenting security controls.
• Manage user accounts, permissions, and access controls in line with security protocols.
• Validate configuration management standards, document changes, and ensure compliance with approved baselines.
• Execute backup, recovery, and disaster recovery procedures to guarantee system resilience.
• Create and maintain technical documentation, SOPs, and knowledge articles.
• Collaborate with Air Force stakeholders, cybersecurity teams, cloud engineers, and other system administrators.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Experience working in a government or defense environment is preferred.
• Strong understanding of cybersecurity compliance frameworks (DISA STIG, DoD, RMF).
