System Safety Engineer – Mining & Industrial

About the role

Applied Intuition is seeking a Systems Safety Engineer to lead safety analysis for autonomous and semi‑autonomous heavy‑machinery used in mining and industrial environments. You will develop end‑to‑end safety cases, translate operational hazards into concrete safety requirements, and collaborate with engineering teams to close safety gaps.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and own machine‑level safety cases for autonomous mining vehicle deployments.
• Conduct hazard identification and risk assessments (HAZOP, System FMEA, Functional Failure Analysis, Operational Risk Assessment, Safety Gap Analysis).
• Derive Machine Safety Requirements for brake‑by‑wire, steer‑by‑wire, throttle‑by‑wire, transmission‑by‑wire, emergency stop, autonomous motion control, and remote operation functions.
• Analyze failure modes and fault propagation to define prevention, detection, and mitigation measures.
• Work closely with cross‑functional engineering teams to implement design, validation, and operational controls.

Required profile

• Hands‑on experience with system‑level safety analysis and safety case development for autonomous systems.
• Strong knowledge of ISO 26262 Part 4 (System Development).
• Experience in hazard identification, risk assessment, and safety requirement definition.
• Ability to translate technical findings into clear, actionable safety specifications.
