Sustainable Development Officer – Regional Liaison for Latin America & Caribbean

About the role

The Sustainable Development Officer, Regional Liaison, will support the Resident Coordinator System by providing analysis, briefing, and coordination between the UN Headquarters and the Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean. Based in New York, the role reports to senior programme managers and the Chief of the Inter‑governmental Section.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare briefing notes, mission packs, and meeting read‑outs for senior leadership, focusing on complex development, crisis, and transition contexts.
• Collect, maintain, and analyse quantitative and qualitative data on regional sustainable‑development trends, producing visualisations and evidence‑informed insights.
• Support intergovernmental processes, conduct horizon scanning, and provide technical assistance for senior‑leadership visits and engagements.
• Facilitate two‑way information flow between Headquarters and the Latin America and Caribbean region, supporting work‑plan implementation and knowledge‑sharing initiatives.

Required profile

• Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in sustainable development, economics, public policy, or related field; or a first‑level degree with relevant experience.
• Minimum five years of progressively responsible experience in sustainable development, policy analysis, or development cooperation, preferably with UN or inter‑governmental experience.
• Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research, analyse data, and present findings to senior audiences.
• Proficiency in English (UN Level III) and working knowledge of French; Spanish is desirable.
