Sustainable Development Officer – Regional Liaison (Europe & Central Asia)

About the role

The Sustainable Development Officer, Regional Liaison, will support the Development Operations Coordination Office (DCO) by providing analysis, briefing, and coordination between the UN Headquarters and the Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia. Based in New York, the role reports to senior programme and inter‑governmental managers.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare briefing notes, mission packs, and meeting read‑outs for senior leadership, covering complex development, crisis, and transition contexts.
• Collect, maintain, and analyse quantitative and qualitative data on regional sustainable‑development trends, producing visualisations and evidence‑informed insights.
• Conduct horizon scanning to identify emerging risks and opportunities, and support intergovernmental processes and senior‑management engagements.
• Facilitate two‑way information flow between Headquarters and the Europe‑Central Asia region, supporting work‑plan implementation and knowledge‑sharing initiatives.

Required profile

• Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in sustainable development, economics, public policy, or related field.
• Minimum five years of progressively responsible experience in sustainable development, policy analysis, or development cooperation.
• Experience with inter‑agency or inter‑governmental collaboration and familiarity with the UN system is desirable.
• Proficiency in English (required) and French (desirable) at UN language levels.
