Sustainable Development Officer – Regional Liaison (Arab States)

About the role

The Sustainable Development Officer, Regional Liaison supports the United Nations Resident Coordinator System by providing analysis, briefing, and coordination services for the Arab States region from the New York headquarters.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare briefing notes, mission packs, and meeting read‑outs for senior leadership on complex development, crisis and transition settings.
• Collect, maintain and analyse quantitative and qualitative data on regional sustainable‑development trends, emerging risks and cross‑border dynamics.
• Produce data visualisations, graphs and tables to inform anticipatory planning and decision‑making.
• Support intergovernmental processes, conduct horizon scanning and provide technical input for senior‑leadership visits.
• Facilitate two‑way information flow between headquarters and the Regional Office, and assist with work‑plan implementation and knowledge‑sharing initiatives.

Required profile

• Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in sustainable development, economics, public policy, or related field.
• Minimum five years of progressively responsible experience in sustainable development, policy analysis or development cooperation.
• Experience with inter‑agency or intergovernmental collaboration, preferably within the UN system.
• Demonstrated ability to incorporate gender equality and inclusion dimensions.
