About the role
The Survey Coordinator and Analyst III leads coordination of the G‑FISHER and PRDW video surveys for the Gulf Coast Research and Development (GCRF) Branch within NOAA SEFSC. This senior‑level position manages logistics, conducts at‑sea operations, reviews video annotations, and delivers scientific results to support federal and state environmental programs.
Key responsibilities
- Assist the GCRF Branch Chief in planning, executing, and completing G‑FISHER and PRDW surveys.
- Serve as Field Party Chief at sea, coordinating vessel activities, personnel, ports of call, and weather considerations.
- Review video annotations and act as subject‑matter expert for marine fishes of the Gulf of America and Caribbean Sea.
- Manage Oracle databases, ensuring data standardization, backup, security, and delivery in collaboration with OMI.
- Estimate relative abundance indices for focal species to support SEDAR and SEAFiSh initiatives.
- Develop species distribution models using GIS and advanced statistical methods.
- Integrate automated data outputs for AI/ML interoperability with FATES personnel.
- Implement VIAME for QA/QC review and integrate SEAMAP Reef Fish Video and Panama City Video datasets into the GFISHER Oracle database.
- Prepare and present scientific manuscripts, reports, and public outreach materials.
Required profile
- BS degree in a relevant scientific discipline with at least 5 years of experience.
- Demonstrated experience leading marine survey operations and data stewardship.
- Strong analytical and written communication skills, capable of publishing peer‑reviewed articles.
