Summer Optical & Vision Science Engineering Internship 2027

About the role

Alcon is looking for motivated Optical & Vision Science Engineering Interns to join its 2027 Summer Internship Program. Interns will work on real‑world projects at one of several U.S. sites, gaining hands‑on experience in eye‑care product development while receiving coaching and mentorship from senior engineers.

Key responsibilities

• Evaluate hazard detection performance of intraocular‑lens models under various glare conditions.
• Investigate the relationship between contrast sensitivity, visual acuity and optical‑quality metrics such as modulation transfer function.
• Design and conduct laboratory experiments using wavefront sensors, vision simulators and psychophysical testing systems.
• Support advanced metrology through instrument design, testing, qualification, image processing and data analysis.
• Apply optical imaging, wavefront sensing, optical coherence tomography and interferometric techniques to ophthalmic‑product research.

Required profile

• Enrolled in an accredited university pursuing a bachelor’s degree in optics, optical engineering, optometry, vision science, imaging, physics or a related field.
• Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.8/4.0.
• Demonstrated leadership through extracurricular activities or projects.
• Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
• Available for a full‑time 10‑12‑week summer internship.
