Substation Inspector / Observer

About the role

The Substation Inspector/Observer is responsible for overseeing the construction of contracted substation projects. The role involves daily on‑site inspections to ensure work complies strictly with drawings, specifications, and approved project documents while maintaining a safety‑conscious environment.

Key responsibilities

• Observe testing requirements for drilled pier foundations, slab on grade, monolithic foundations, access roads, yard rock, ground grid, substation steel, and wiring.
• Interact professionally with contractors, providing clear, accurate, and timely communications.
• Create and maintain detailed daily inspection reports and review discrepancies with relevant parties.
• Maintain all contract documents, permits, and updated drawings.
• Identify safety concerns and initiate corrective actions as needed.

Required profile

• Minimum five years of experience with substation facilities and foundations.
• Previous substation construction and inspection experience preferred.
• Journeyman Lineman experience is a plus.
• Strong knowledge of construction specifications, drawings, and conformance requirements.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Project Management applications such as Procore.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Basic understanding of field mobile applications (e.g., ArcGIS, Field Maps).
• FHWA NHI 132070 Drilled Shaft Inspector qualification (helpful but not required).
• ACI Concrete Field‑Testing Grade I certification (helpful but not required).
