Student Research Assistant (PRN)

About the role

Saint Louis University is seeking a PRN Student Research Assistant to support ongoing laboratory investigations. Working under general direction, you will contribute to moderately complex experiments, maintain equipment, and assist investigators while gaining hands‑on research experience.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with and independently conduct research projects following established protocols.
• Prepare and maintain culture media, reagents, and experimental animals; grow cultures and administer injections.
• Operate scientific apparatus such as spectrophotometers, centrifuges, incubators, homogenizers, and microscopes.
• Perform assays, chromatography, electrophoresis, and specimen preparation including cutting, staining, and mounting.
• Maintain laboratory cleanliness, sterilize equipment, and perform minor equipment repairs.
• Compile, process, and analyze data; record procedures, code data for electronic processing, and manage laboratory inventories.
• Handle clerical duties including typing, phone answering, correspondence, and bibliographic maintenance.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Science or a closely related field.
• Basic knowledge of laboratory techniques such as RT‑PCR, histology, and mRNA extraction.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and maintain detailed records.
• Strong interpersonal skills to assist new technicians and fellows.
