Student Facility Attendant – Recreational Sports

About the role

The Recreational Sports department at Texas A&M International University is seeking motivated students to work as Facility, Weight Room, and Game Room Attendants. This work‑study position supports daily operations, member services, and safety in a vibrant campus recreation environment.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with daily operations of the Rec Center, including the weight room, functional room, and game room.
• Support front‑desk staff in marketing memberships and equipment sales.
• Verify member access and enforce university and facility policies.
• Execute opening and closing procedures, set up equipment safely, and secure the facility.
• Manage inventory of intramural equipment and oversee checkout processes.
• Mentor new student employees on guidelines and procedures.
• Help staff with outreach programs for K‑12 schools and university recruitment.
• Participate in departmental meetings and set up equipment for activities.
• Provide fitness class information and maintain a clean, safe environment.
• Conduct facility orientations, guide proper equipment use, and implement emergency protocols (CPR, evacuation, blood‑borne pathogen handling, severe weather procedures).

Required profile

• Enrolled at least half‑time (minimum 6 credit hours per semester for undergraduates, 3 for graduate students).
• Ability to lift/move heavy objects and perform physical tasks such as bending, kneeling, and stooping.
• Strong customer‑service orientation and communication skills.
• Availability to work flexible hours, including opening and closing shifts.

Required skills

• CPR certification (or ability to obtain).
