Structural Engineer

About the role

Sandvik is seeking a Structural Engineer to join its Rotary Drilling Division in Alachua, FL. The role focuses on R&D and engineering tasks for surface‑mining drill rigs, ensuring structural designs meet performance and safety standards.

Key responsibilities

• Perform and report structural FEA analyses, including non‑linear and modal studies.
• Oversee FEA work performed by design engineers and propose solutions to design challenges.
• Test and validate theoretical calculations, including strain‑gauge data analysis.
• Maintain and update structural design standards and documentation.
• Coordinate with engineering supervisors, chief engineers, and cross‑functional teams to ensure designs meet quality, schedule, and specification requirements.
• Participate in cross‑functional design reviews with production, purchasing, sales, and customer service.
• Work in compliance with Sandvik’s safety management program.

Required profile

• Application knowledge of mobile equipment, preferably drilling equipment.
• Ability to perform FEA, interpret results, and suggest improvements.
• Experience selecting and analyzing strain‑gauge data.
• Understanding of machine‑steel fabrication, manufacturing processes, and mechanics of materials.
• Familiarity with common structural engineering standards for mobile equipment.
