Strategic Buyer – Defense Procurement

About the role

Rolls‑Royce is seeking a Strategic Buyer to lead the Defence purchasing strategy for a range of commodities. Based in Indianapolis, you will work in a hybrid model, collaborating with senior internal stakeholders and external suppliers to drive cost, quality, delivery and performance improvements.

Key responsibilities

• Lead commercial negotiations to secure the best overall value for the company.
• Develop and implement Defence commodity strategies.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with existing suppliers.
• Identify and qualify new suppliers to support long‑term Defence programmes.
• Create and deploy cost models for designated commodities.
• Represent the Defence Supply Chain Unit with internal program and purchasing teams.
• Work with supplier management teams to resolve major contractual issues efficiently.

Required profile

• Associate degree with 4+ years of purchasing experience, OR Bachelor’s degree with 2+ years, OR Master’s degree, OR JD/PhD, OR 6+ years of purchasing experience without a degree.
• U.S. citizenship is mandatory.
• Preferred experience in commercial negotiation and operational, procurement or logistics functions.
