Sterile Processing Technician – 3rd Shift (Non‑Certified)

About the role

The Sterile Processing Technician ensures that cleaned, prepared, and sterilized equipment and supplies are available for surgical procedures at Ochsner Medical Center. This non‑certified, third‑shift position supports both clinical and satellite operations, acting as a key resource for instrument processing and patient‑care support.

Key responsibilities

• Receive, clean, disinfect, inspect, package and store reusable medical instruments and equipment for surgical procedures.
• Perform high‑level disinfection, pre‑vacuum, gravity‑displacement and hydrogen‑peroxide plasma sterilization according to manufacturer instructions.
• Maintain accurate records, document control and compliance with regulatory standards and standard operating procedures.
• Support surgical teams by providing necessary supplies and ensuring timely availability of sterile trays.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Preferably two years of sterile processing experience or completion of an accredited sterile processing or surgical technology program.
• Certification such as CRCST, IAHCSMM, CSPDT, CBSPD or CFER is preferred but not required.
• Ability to work flexible schedules, including nights, weekends and holidays, and to travel between facilities.

Required skills

• Proficiency in High Level Disinfection, Pre‑Vacuum Sterilization, Gravity‑Displacement Sterilization and Hydrogen Peroxide Plasma Sterilization techniques.
• Competence in using computers, software and web‑based applications for documentation and tracking.
