State Transport Police Officer (Non-Certified)

About the role

The State Transport Police (STP) of South Carolina seeks Non‑Certified Officers to enforce state and federal laws governing commercial motor vehicles across Regions Three to Six. Officers patrol highways, conduct inspections, and protect the travelling public and the environment.

Key responsibilities

• Patrol South Carolina highways, focusing on commercial motor vehicle compliance.
• Enforce size, weight, and hazardous material regulations to protect infrastructure and the environment.
• Conduct roadside Driver/Vehicle Examination Reports using North American Inspection Standard procedures.
• Operate speed measurement devices, hand scales, and permanent scale facilities for enforcement.
• Assist other agencies and the public with commercial vehicle enforcement and general law enforcement duties.
• Investigate accidents, respond to complaints, and prepare accurate reports.
• Issue citations, prepare cases for prosecution, and maintain required certifications.

Required profile

• High school diploma (or bachelor's degree in lieu of experience).
• Experience performing patrol or investigative duties with a public law‑enforcement agency, or equivalent.
• U.S. citizenship, at least 21 years of age, and South Carolina residency with a valid SC driver’s license.
• Ability to communicate effectively and exercise independent judgment.
• Willingness to complete the State Transport Police Training Program and pass a pre‑employment physical fitness test.

Required skills
