State Tax Counsel

About the role

ExxonMobil is seeking a highly skilled State Tax Counsel to join its Houston campus. The role offers exposure to a multi‑jurisdiction portfolio of state and local tax matters within a Fortune 50 multinational corporation.

Key responsibilities

• Provide guidance on state tax implications of major transactions, legislative changes, and regulatory developments.
• Collaborate with finance, business units, and external counsel on audit matters and tax savings opportunities.
• Manage relationships with state tax officials and support internal stakeholders on compliance and reporting.
• Monitor and interpret state and local tax laws to mitigate risk and optimize tax positions.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in state and local tax matters, preferably within a large corporate environment.
• Strong analytical and communication skills to interact with cross‑functional teams and tax authorities.
• Ability to manage a diverse portfolio of tax issues and adapt to evolving business needs.

Required skills

• In‑depth knowledge of state and local tax regulations and compliance requirements.
• Experience handling tax audits and negotiating with tax officials.
