State & Local Tax Manager – Internal Partnership Team

About the role

The State & Local Manager will join PwC's Internal Partnership Tax Team within the firm’s internal Tax department. This senior position focuses on state tax compliance, research, planning, and budgeting for the firm and its partners, ensuring adherence to tax laws while supporting business objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Lead tax compliance and consulting workstreams, managing stakeholder expectations.
• Guide teams in preparing and filing state and local tax returns to meet regulatory requirements.
• Analyze financial data to ensure tax compliance and identify optimization opportunities.
• Develop and implement state tax planning strategies to improve the firm’s tax position.
• Draft and review documentation supporting tax compliance and strategic initiatives.
• Monitor financial trends to uncover tax‑optimization opportunities.
• Coach and mentor junior staff, fostering skill development and performance.
• Address conflicts or issues with stakeholders and team members, escalating when necessary.
• Manage partnership tax compliance and consulting services related to state and local tax positions.
• Build relationships with internal stakeholders to facilitate tax management and due‑diligence.
• Promote creativity, embrace change, and adopt technology to enhance tax processes.
• Uphold professional and technical standards, including adherence to PwC’s code of conduct.

Required profile

• At least a Bachelor’s degree.
• Manager‑level experience leading tax compliance or consulting projects.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
• Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop junior team members.
• Commitment to integrity, authenticity, and PwC’s purpose and values.
