State & Local Indirect Tax Manager

About the role

PwC is seeking an experienced tax professional to lead its State and Local Indirect Tax practice in San Francisco. The manager will guide clients through complex VAT, GST, sales tax and other indirect tax matters, helping them optimise compliance and strategic positioning.

Key responsibilities

• Provide advisory services on indirect tax planning, compliance and strategy for a diverse client base.
• Lead project delivery, ensuring effective planning, budgeting, execution and timely completion.
• Coach, mentor and develop team members, leveraging their strengths to meet client expectations.
• Collaborate with senior leadership to maintain quality standards, timelines and deliverables.
• Identify technology‑enabled solutions that drive digitisation, automation and efficiency in tax processes.
• Manage client relationships, address complex issues and represent PwC with integrity.

Required profile

• Proven experience in state and local indirect tax, including VAT, GST and sales tax.
• Strong leadership abilities with a track record of coaching and performance management.
• Excellent analytical skills and the ability to link system components to business outcomes.
• Effective communication skills for handling difficult conversations with clients and stakeholders.
• Commitment to professional standards, firm values and ethical conduct.
