Staff Vehicle Systems Engineer

About the role

Rivian and Volkswagen Group Technologies are building the next generation of software‑defined electric vehicles. As a Staff Vehicle Systems Engineer you will work with cross‑functional hardware and software teams to design, develop, and integrate complex vehicle systems, ensuring performance, reliability, and safety.

Key responsibilities

• Establish best practices for integrated vehicle system development, including requirements, architectures, and designs.
• Hold teams accountable for vehicle‑level requirements and enable subsystem decomposition.
• Collaborate with hardware, software, and other disciplines to guarantee system compatibility and seamless integration.
• Identify, assess, and mitigate risks in system designs and communicate them to senior leadership.
• Decompose the vehicle system into subsystems and ensure end‑to‑end functionality.
• Lead system‑wide analysis to meet vehicle‑level performance metrics during integration.
• Coordinate cross‑functional subsystem teams to deliver integrated features.
• Arbitrate trade‑offs between vehicle and component requirements across domains.
• Work with feature champions to align user stories and resolve conflicting requirements.
• Engage stakeholders—including customers, engineers, business partners, and leadership—to keep technical direction aligned.

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in an engineering discipline.
• 6+ years of experience in systems engineering, including leadership responsibilities.
• Proven experience with vehicle platforms or similarly complex integrated systems.
