Staff Software Engineer, Telematics

About the role

We are looking for a Staff Software Engineer specialized in Telematics to join Rivian and Volkswagen Group Technologies’ joint venture. The role focuses on developing high‑performance embedded software for electric vehicles, leveraging modern C++ and optionally Rust, within resource‑constrained environments.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain embedded applications using Modern C++ (C++11+) and, when applicable, Rust.
• Write comprehensive unit tests with GTest and GMock and enforce coding standards.
• Implement and optimise operating‑system level features such as memory management, concurrency and multithreading.
• Work with embedded databases, TCP/IP stacks and middleware protocols including NATs, MQTT, HTTPS and gRPC.
• Integrate data‑serialization technologies like Protocol Buffers and secure communications using mTLS.
• Utilise Yocto and other build systems to create custom Linux distributions for automotive platforms.
• Collaborate closely with cross‑functional teams, including cloud engineers, to ensure seamless system integration.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related discipline.
• At least 6 years of software engineering experience, primarily in embedded systems.
• Strong problem‑solving abilities and capacity to work both independently and within a team.
• Excellent communication skills for cross‑functional collaboration.
