Staff Software Engineer & Tech Lead

About the role

Shiftsmart is building the Amazon of labor, a platform that connects 5M flexible workers with major brands such as Circle K, Pepsi, and Starbucks. This position is based in New York City headquarters and typically requires four or more days per week on‑site.

Key responsibilities

• Lead complex technical projects from ideation through production, e.g., tuning dispatch algorithms and improving onboarding experiences.
• Design, architect, and build high‑performance, reliable features and services using Node.js, React/React Native, MongoDB, Python, and GCP.
• Drive technical vision, influence product strategy, and conduct regular technical reviews.
• Monitor and maintain platform performance in a high‑volume, two‑sided marketplace.
• Mentor junior engineers and help scale the engineering team.

Required profile

• 6+ years of software engineering experience with a track record of delivering complex projects.
• Strong collaborator who works cross‑functionally with product, design, and leadership.
• Outcome‑oriented, entrepreneurial mindset and ability to thrive in a fast‑paced startup environment.
