Staff+ Software Engineer, Safeguards Data

About the role

Anthropic is seeking a Staff+ Software Engineer to build the data foundations for its Safeguards team. You will design, implement, and operate data pipelines, warehouses and governance controls that enable detection, evaluation and review of AI model behavior across AWS, GCP and Azure environments.

Key responsibilities

• Build and operate the data platform that powers Safeguards, including ingestion pipelines, processing workflows, warehouses and schema interfaces.
• Maintain day‑to‑day reliability of Safeguards systems while minimizing manual operational effort.
• Own data governance, retention, access control and privacy‑preserving handling of sensitive data.
• Design portable systems that run across multiple cloud providers and in customer‑managed environments.
• Collaborate with analysts, investigators and researchers to provide tooling and data needed for safety investigations.

Required profile

• Proficiency in Python and SQL.
• Experience building and operating production data pipelines or data stores.
• Ability to work across the full data stack—from ingestion to storage to consumption.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, able to explain technical trade‑offs to non‑technical audiences.
