Staff+ Software Engineer, Platform Portability

About the role

Anthropic is looking for a Staff+ Software Engineer to join its Platform Portability team in San Francisco. The team builds the abstractions, tooling, and deployment infrastructure that let Anthropic run its Claude AI models across multiple cloud providers and accelerator platforms, ensuring safe and reliable AI delivery worldwide.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement provider‑agnostic abstractions for storage, messaging, and connectivity that scale to frontier‑model inference workloads.
• Create and maintain tooling that enables internal teams to provision, configure, and operate services on any cloud through a single interface.
• Identify and eliminate provider‑specific assumptions in the codebase, establishing patterns to prevent future drift.
• Own end‑to‑end delivery of Claude on third‑party cloud platforms, including build, release, and validation pipelines.
• Collaborate with engineering teams at cloud partners and internal Compute, Inference, and Security groups to ship features, debug platform issues, and influence partner roadmaps.
• Review multi‑cloud designs, mentor engineers on portability best practices, and produce clear documentation and runbooks.
• Participate in on‑call rotation, write post‑mortems, and develop incident‑response processes to improve reliability.

Required profile

• Minimum 8 years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong background in building large‑scale, cloud‑native infrastructure.
• Experience working across multiple cloud providers and accelerator platforms.
• Proven ability to ship reliable, repeatable production systems at scale.
• Excellent communication skills for cross‑team collaboration and mentorship.
