Staff Software Engineer, Backend

About the role

Posh is building the ultimate platform for real‑world communities. As a Staff Software Engineer, Backend you will set the technical direction for our backend systems, own architecture across multiple services, and ship production code while mentoring the broader engineering team.

Key responsibilities

• Own backend architecture across services and team boundaries, from design through implementation.
• Write production‑grade code daily, establishing standards for quality, reliability, and engineering practice.
• Partner with engineering leads and product managers to scope large initiatives and define “done”.
• Improve scalability, performance, and reliability as the platform grows.
• Identify and clear technical debt across teams.
• Build security and observability into systems from day one.
• Design data‑focused instrumentation, pipelines, and tooling.
• Mentor engineers, lead design reviews, and shape technical culture.
• Participate in hiring by conducting technical interviews and calibrations.

Required profile

• 8+ years of backend engineering experience, including time as a Staff, Principal, or technical lead.
• Proven track record designing and delivering systems that span multiple services or teams.
• Deep expertise in backend concepts such as APIs, data modeling, distributed systems, and event‑driven architecture.
• Strong working knowledge of the full stack and operational scaling of platforms.
