About the role

The Staff Physician (O-5) provides mission‑focused primary and urgent care to individuals in federal custody within a collaborative, multidisciplinary federal health system. This non‑supervisory position serves a diverse international patient population in ambulatory and infirmary settings, ensuring high‑quality medical care in accordance with professional standards.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver comprehensive medical care to adult men, women, children, and family units in federal facilities.
• Collect detailed medical and social histories, conduct assessments, order diagnostics, and prescribe treatment.
• Coordinate referrals to specialist consultants and arrange hospital admissions when needed.
• Provide emergency medical, surgical, and mental‑health services as required.
• Maintain patient documentation, co‑sign records, and ensure compliance with accepted standards of care.
• Offer clinical oversight to advanced practice providers (APPs) and medical assistants, including collaborating physician designations.
• Utilize communication assistance resources for patients with limited English proficiency or communication disabilities.

Required profile

• Must be a U.S. Public Health Service (USPHS) officer or a Call to Active Duty (CAD) candidate.
• Hold a valid medical license appropriate for the practice setting.
• Ability to provide primary, urgent, and emergency care to a varied detainee population.
• Experience working in multidisciplinary, federal healthcare environments is preferred.
• Strong communication skills to interact with patients of diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds.
