Staff Nurse – Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU)

About the role

The Staff Nurse in the Post‑Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) provides professional nursing care to patients recovering from surgery under the supervision of senior staff. This role is essential for monitoring patient recovery, delivering therapeutic interventions, and ensuring a safe transition from anesthesia to discharge.

Key responsibilities

• Identify and assess physical and psycho‑social signs and symptoms of patients in the PACU.
• Implement therapeutic measures and nursing regimens tailored to each patient’s needs.
• Maintain accurate nursing care plans, progress notes, and documentation to ensure continuity of care.
• Report patient responses and changes to the interdisciplinary health team promptly.
• Collaborate with physicians, anesthesiologists, and allied health professionals to develop comprehensive care plans.
• Delegate appropriate tasks to allied nursing personnel and provide guidance and teaching as needed.
• Participate in departmental conferences and contribute to the development and interpretation of nursing standards.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse (RN) with current licensure in New York State.
• Experience or training in peri‑operative or post‑anesthesia care preferred.
• Ability to work under supervision while delivering independent patient care.
• Strong communication skills for interdisciplinary collaboration.
