Staff Mechanical Engineer – Power System Battery Pack Designer

About the role

Shield AI is seeking a senior mechanical engineer to lead the mechanical design of battery systems for X‑BAT, the Launch and Recovery Vehicle, and related ground equipment. You will own enclosure design, internal cell packaging, integration, qualification and release to manufacturing.

Key responsibilities

• Define and execute the external enclosure, thermal management and environmental protection for X‑BAT, the Launch and Recovery Vehicle, and ground equipment.
• Design, develop, and integrate internal component packaging, harness and connector integration.
• Perform tolerance, assembly and serviceability analysis and ensure system performance through shock, vibration, ingress and thermal verification.

Required profile

• B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• 5+ years of experience in battery design for large aircraft or comparable power systems (rocket, satellite, automotive, etc.).
• Proven delivery of battery power systems to market.

Required skills

• Battery pack design and integration.
• Mechanical engineering development tools, simulation and test equipment.
• Thermal management and environmental protection analysis.
