Staff Engineer – Full Stack

About the role

As one of the earliest engineers at Short Story, you will shape the technology, product experience, and engineering culture of a fast‑growing, data‑driven retailer. You’ll work end‑to‑end on both customer‑facing and internal platforms, building tools that empower customers and stylists alike.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build, and scale full‑stack applications using Next.js, React Query, TailwindCSS, Node.js, and PostgreSQL.
• Drive technical direction by influencing architecture, making trade‑offs, and establishing engineering standards.
• Collaborate with design, product, and operations to deliver solutions from UI to backend services.
• Implement testing and automation across the stack with Cypress, Jest, and React Testing Library.
• Own deployment and operations on Netlify, AWS, and CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions.

Required profile

• Passionate about improving user experience and have launched high‑quality user‑facing products.
• Fluent in TypeScript and CSS with extensive experience building scalable applications using Next.js and React.
• Hands‑on experience with React‑Query, Tailwind CSS, and front‑end tooling such as Webpack and Yarn.
• Proven ability to translate Figma designs into elegant, accessible interfaces across devices.
