Staff Attorney – Public Benefits Law (Monroe, MI)

About the role

The Legal Services of South Central Michigan (LSSCM) is seeking a Staff Attorney for its Monroe office. The attorney will provide direct legal representation and advocacy on public benefits, family, housing, and consumer law matters for low‑income residents of Monroe and Lenawee Counties.

Key responsibilities

• Represent clients in matters related to public benefits, housing, family, and consumer law.
• Conduct client interviews, investigations, and legal research.
• Draft pleadings, motions, and other legal documents.
• Advocate for systemic change through impact litigation and policy work.
• Collaborate with LSSCM staff and community partners to improve access to justice.

Required profile

• Licensed to practice law in Michigan, eligible for admission by waiver, or able to sit for the next Michigan bar exam.
• Strong communication, analytical, and problem‑solving abilities.
• Demonstrated commitment to serving low‑income and underserved populations.
• Legal aid or litigation experience is a plus.
