Staff Attorney – Professional Licensing Division

About the role

The State of Georgia’s Professional Licensing Division is seeking a Staff Attorney to provide legal counsel and support to the Secretary of State’s Professional Licensing Board. Under broad supervision, you will work closely with the PLB Director, legal staff, and board executives to ensure compliance and effective administration of licensing regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Draft and negotiate consent orders for professional licensing boards and cemeteries.
• Research Georgia law on professional licensing and prepare legal memoranda.
• Review and respond to Open Records Requests.
• Assist in developing and reviewing proposed rules and regulations.
• Draft new or amended legislation and provide analysis to General Counsel.
• Prepare correspondence to licensees and review investigative reports.
• Monitor administrative processes to maintain regulatory compliance.
• Perform other legal tasks as assigned.

Required profile

• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Strong knowledge of statutes, court decisions, and state/federal regulations.
• Proficiency in legal research and analytical writing.
• Understanding of administrative regulation, legislative drafting, and contract law.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
