Staff Attorney – Housing

About the role

The Olean office of LawNY® is seeking a full‑time Staff Attorney to join its Housing Unit. You will provide direct legal representation to low‑income residents of Cattaraugus County facing mortgage and tax foreclosure, helping them avoid losing their homes.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain a full‑time caseload for eligible clients in the Eviction Prevention Unit.
• Develop expertise in housing law, including landlord‑tenant issues, subsidized housing, and government benefits.
• Deliver legal services—advice, negotiation, litigation, and administrative advocacy—to low‑income clients.
• Collaborate with fellow advocates, human‑services providers, non‑profits, courts, and community groups.
• Participate in grant and program reporting, timekeeping, and contribute to a safe workplace.

Required profile

• Admission to practice law in New York State and good standing.
• Demonstrated commitment to serving low‑income populations.
• Excellent oral and written communication abilities.

• Salary based on experience ($75,000‑$111,100 annually).
