Sr. Manager, Research Cost Accounting

About the role

The University of Miami’s Office of Research Administration seeks a Senior Manager to lead research cost accounting and service‑center rate governance. This position ensures compliance with OMB Uniform Guidance, Cost Accounting Standards, and university policies while supporting financial sustainability of research services.

Key responsibilities

• Review, develop, and approve service and recharge center rate calculations in line with federal and institutional guidelines.
• Provide financial oversight of service‑center operations, monitor surpluses/deficits, and recommend corrective actions.
• Conduct advanced financial analyses, including cost studies, rate modeling, variance analysis, and sustainability assessments.
• Advise departments, principal investigators, and service‑center managers on allowable costs, pricing structures, and rate adjustments.
• Evaluate cost allocation methodologies for accuracy, consistency, and equitable treatment of users.
• Develop and maintain standardized tools, templates, and methodologies for rate development.
• Support compliance efforts by responding to audit inquiries and identifying financial risks.
• Collaborate with research administration, finance, HR, FP&A, and other stakeholders to align service‑center practices.
• Prepare reports and status updates for senior leadership.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in research cost accounting, financial analysis, and rate governance.
• Deep knowledge of OMB Uniform Guidance (2 CFR §200) and Cost Accounting Standards.
• Proven ability to lead cross‑functional teams and serve as a strategic advisor.
• Strong analytical mindset with experience in complex, high‑volume service environments.
