Sr. Engineering Manager, Data Engineering

About the role

Mapfre is looking for a senior engineering leader to drive the design, development and operation of enterprise‑scale data platforms and data products. The role will oversee a team of data engineers and technical leads, ensuring the delivery of reliable, secure and scalable solutions that enable analytics, AI, reporting and regulatory compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, mentor and grow a high‑performing team of Data Engineers and Platform Engineers.
• Establish a culture of engineering excellence, ownership, collaboration and continuous improvement.
• Develop team capabilities through coaching, technical mentorship and succession planning.
• Own end‑to‑end delivery of enterprise data solutions, managing capacity, sprint commitments, dependencies and risks.
• Partner with Data Product Managers to translate business requirements into scalable technical designs.
• Ensure predictable, high‑quality delivery and reduce technical debt.
• Drive operational reliability, monitoring and incident response for data platforms.
• Promote an inclusive, psychologically safe environment that supports talent development and innovation.
• Support strategic initiatives aligned with Mapfre’s data maturity and transformation roadmap.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading data engineering teams in a large, enterprise environment.
• Strong track record of delivering complex data platforms and products at scale.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder‑management skills.
• Ability to mentor engineers and build high‑performing, inclusive teams.
• Strategic mindset with a focus on operational reliability and continuous improvement.
