Sponsored Program Specialist

About the role

The University of Miami’s Radiology – Vascular Interventional Research program is looking for a Sponsored Program Specialist to manage and coordinate all aspects of research funding. The role partners with faculty and research teams to prepare grant proposals, oversee budgets, process post‑award actions, and ensure compliance with university and sponsor requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor sponsored accounts for compliance issues, problem expenditures, and overdrafts.
• Resolve expenditure discrepancies and work with departmental administrators to correct issues.
• Approve or deny HR‑related transactions that impact sponsored accounts, including new hires and overload payments.
• Approve payroll journal entries and non‑payroll transactions affecting sponsored funds.
• Set up and maintain account budgets based on awarded amounts and agency guidelines.
• Interpret regulations and guide department staff on sponsored program requirements.
• Prepare accounts for transmittal, closing, and award termination.
• Ensure release of unobligated funds on purchase orders and safeguard university assets.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
• Minimum of one year of experience in grant administration, finance, or related area.
• Ability to learn new procedures, technologies, and adapt to changing priorities.
• Strong teamwork orientation and collaborative mindset.

Required skills

• Proficiency with office software applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
