Software Engineering Manager, SDK

About the role

Sanity.io is building an AI‑powered Content Operating System and needs an Engineering Manager to lead the SDK team that creates and maintains the App SDK – a set of typed React hooks for real‑time content applications. The manager will own strategy, roadmap, and delivery while staying hands‑on with code reviews and technical guidance.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and grow a team of engineers, helping them prioritize impact and develop their careers.
• Own strategy, roadmap, and execution in partnership with product and design.
• Set technical direction for a large‑scale TypeScript codebase, balancing velocity and maintainability.
• Design clean, developer‑friendly APIs and guide their implementation.
• Stay hands‑on through code reviews, pairing, and occasional contributions.
• Run the open‑source project effectively: triage issues, manage contributions, and maintain changelogs.
• Champion developer experience with features like automatic type generation and one‑command deploy.
• Measure SDK adoption, time‑to‑first‑app, and other success metrics.
• Collaborate across engineering leadership, product, design, DevRel, and partnerships.

Required profile

• Based in San Francisco/Bay Area or remote within the United States.
• 3+ years of engineering leadership experience and 5+ years as a software engineer.
• Deep experience with TypeScript and React, including hooks and state management.
• Experience building libraries, SDKs, or developer tools used by other engineers.
• Background in product or SaaS companies and close collaboration with product managers and designers.
• Comfortable working with remote and distributed teams.
