Software Engineering Intern (Masters) – Santa Clara, CA

About the role

Applied Materials is seeking a Masters‑level Software Engineering Intern to join its Common Systems Software Department in Santa Clara for the summer of 2027. The intern will work on control‑system software that drives real‑time devices such as robots, motors, and sensors, contributing to cutting‑edge semiconductor and display technology.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop code for control‑system software projects.
• Create prototype software to interface with new devices, actuators, and sensors.
• Assist in troubleshooting moderately difficult software problems.
• Create and execute test plans on simulators, test benches, or lab equipment.
• Develop software documentation and collaborate closely with the team.

Required profile

• Currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
• Good academic standing with a GPA of 3.2 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Effective troubleshooting and problem‑solving abilities.
• Result‑oriented mindset with a passion for contributing ideas.
