About the role

Anthropic is seeking a Software Engineer to join its Research Tools team in San Francisco. The role focuses on building the infrastructure and applications that enable AI researchers to run experiments, collect feedback, and gain insights quickly. You will work at the intersection of product thinking and full‑stack engineering, translating research workflows into reliable, user‑friendly tools.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain full‑stack applications and platforms used daily by research teams.
• Collaborate closely with researchers to understand their workflows, identify bottlenecks, and deliver technical solutions.
• Create intuitive interfaces and abstractions that simplify complex research tasks.
• Build reusable tools that accelerate the creation of new research applications.
• Prototype rapidly, gather user feedback, and iterate on solutions.
• Own product areas from design through implementation and ongoing improvement.
• Contribute to technical strategy and architecture for research tooling.
• Mentor fellow engineers and promote best practices.

Required profile

• 5+ years of software engineering experience with a strong emphasis on full‑stack development.
• Proven ability to move quickly from concept to working prototype.
• Experience building tools, platforms, or infrastructure for technical users such as engineers or researchers.
• High agency and comfort operating independently in ambiguous environments.
• Ability to quickly acquire deep domain knowledge and drive projects from conception to delivery.
