Software Engineer (Planning)

About the role

Sabanto is a venture‑backed, Illinois‑based technology company on a mission to drive autonomy into agriculture. As a Full Stack Engineer you will build the web and API platform that powers vehicle configuration, data pipeline processing, and the interfaces customers use daily when operating autonomous agricultural robots.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and extend the cloud path planning engine – coverage paths, headland generation, turn optimization, and safe traversals – for autonomous agricultural robots operating in the field.
• Diagnose and resolve customer‑reported field‑coverage issues in complex real‑world geometries such as holes, waterways, and irrigation systems.
• Build and harden geospatial data pipelines that transform and optimize field and equipment data.
• Design, build, and operate Python‑based AWS Lambda services across the platform, from specification through deployment.
• Write tested, hardened, and safe code with unit and integration tests against real field data and visual validation before each release.
• Own the build and deployment lifecycle for serverless cloud services.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field.
• Strong quantitative, analytical, and problem‑solving skills with comfort reasoning about geometry and spatial data.
• Entrepreneurial attitude with a keen eye for detail.
• Organized, disciplined, and able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
• Industrious – ideally can drive, or is willing to learn to drive, tractors or other four‑wheel vehicles.
• Ag‑agnostic – comfortable interacting with farmers and not intimidated by field environments.

Required skills

• Python (production‑grade, well‑tested services).
• Geospatial and computational geometry libraries (Shapely, GeoPandas, PyProj).
• Amazon Web Services – Lambda, DynamoDB, S3, API Gateway, ECS.
• Docker‑based software and build pipelines.
• Optimization techniques or operations research tools (e.g., OR‑Tools, vehicle routing).
• Robotics or vehicle kinematics knowledge (e.g., Dubins/Reeds‑Shempp paths, turning‑radius constraints).
• NodeJS/TypeScript and SQL/NoSQL database engines for cross‑team collaboration.
