Software Engineer II – Streaming

About the role

Rivian and Volkswagen Group Technologies are looking for a Software Engineer II to join their Data Platform Streaming team in Palo Alto. The role focuses on designing, building, and operating real‑time streaming systems that power vehicle telemetry, connected services, analytics, and AI/ML platforms.

Key responsibilities

• Build and maintain scalable streaming services that ingest, process, and deliver vehicle and cloud data at scale.
• Design, develop, and operate Apache Flink applications and event‑driven services using Apache Kafka or Redpanda.
• Create streaming infrastructure for analytics, machine learning, and real‑time decision making.
• Design event‑driven architectures emphasizing throughput, low latency, resiliency, and operational simplicity.
• Develop production‑grade streaming applications in Java, Scala, Python, or Go following best practices.
• Define topic design, partitioning, checkpointing, DLQs, replay strategies, and failure recovery mechanisms.
• Optimize applications for latency, throughput, resource utilization, and cost through performance tuning.
• Produce reusable platform components, SDKs, and libraries to improve developer productivity.

Required profile
