Software Engineer II – Decision Management Platform

About the role

Mastercard is looking for a Software Engineer II to design and build the next‑generation Decision Management Platform, a real‑time system that scores and approves billions of payment transactions. The role is hands‑on, involving coding, prototyping, and the use of AI coding tools to deliver high‑quality features quickly.

Key responsibilities

• Write production code for services, tooling, and platform features.
• Design and implement components of large distributed systems.
• Build reusable services, libraries, and integrations.
• Take prototypes from idea to working software.
• Select frameworks, libraries, and tools based on quality, cost, latency, and reliability.
• Use AI coding tools as the default workflow and share best practices with the team.
• Improve customer experience, simplify designs, and reduce cost or latency.
• Pay down technical debt, fix resiliency gaps, and close operational risks.
• Contribute to cross‑service designs and provide feedback in design and code reviews.
• Mentor peers and junior engineers and participate in interviewing candidates.

Required profile

• Proven track record of shipping real features in distributed systems at scale.
• Hands‑on experience building for scale and making sound technical trade‑offs.
• Ability to mentor others and raise the hiring bar.
