Software Engineer II - Backend/Platform Agentic AI

About the role

Mastercard is building a first‑party AI platform that brings agentic, conversational, and generative capabilities into its Portfolio Intelligence products. As a Software Engineer II you will design, develop, and operate AI‑enabled backend services that power natural‑language analytics, automated report summaries, and personalized dashboards for thousands of customers worldwide.

Key responsibilities

• Build and operate multi‑tenant services that deliver AI‑powered features, ensuring correctness, performance, and reliability.
• Implement agentic workflows and LLM integrations, including tool calling, retrieval patterns, prompt management, and streaming responses.
• Own end‑to‑end delivery: design, development, testing, deployment, documentation, and production support.
• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and release processes for consistent delivery.
• Monitor, debug, and optimize AI systems in production, addressing latency and service‑health issues.
• Collaborate with senior engineers, architects, and platform teams to integrate AI capabilities into the existing Java/Spring Boot stack.

Required profile

• Mid‑level software engineer with a strong focus on building production‑grade services.
• Experience working with Java and Spring Boot in a distributed, multi‑tenant environment.
• Hands‑on experience integrating Large Language Model (LLM) capabilities into backend systems.
• Ability to design, implement, and support end‑to‑end AI workflows.
