Software Engineer I (Java Microservices)

About the role

The Software Engineer I will join Mastercard’s transaction processing platform team, focusing on Java‑based microservices that handle high‑throughput, low‑latency payments. This early‑career position offers hands‑on experience with modern development practices, cloud‑native architectures, and collaborative Agile teams.

Key responsibilities

• Translate product requirements into Java implementations under senior guidance.
• Participate in design discussions and propose scalable, maintainable solutions.
• Write modular, readable, and performant code following engineering best practices.
• Develop and maintain unit, functional, and integration tests.
• Follow secure coding standards throughout the development lifecycle.
• Conduct peer code reviews and incorporate feedback.
• Assist with prototyping, proof‑of‑concept, and cloud‑ready microservice development.
• Troubleshoot and resolve software defects and production issues.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams using Agile Scrum methodologies.

Required profile

• Good understanding of Java, J2EE, Spring, Spring Boot, Kafka, RESTful services, and JPA.
• Foundational knowledge of software design and architecture concepts.
• Familiarity with testing practices and secure coding principles.
• Strong problem‑solving, analytical, and communication skills.
• Willingness to learn from experienced engineers.
