Software Engineer I – Full Time

About the role

As a member of Cisco’s Distributed Systems Engineering group, you will help test network software and build scalable automation environments for WebScaler production. The role focuses on creating continuous deployment frameworks using Python to qualify software for service‑provider routing and packet‑optical products.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain automated test suites for network software deployed in large‑scale production environments.
• Design and implement continuous integration/continuous deployment pipelines using Python and related tools.
• Collaborate with hardware and software teams to qualify routing and packet‑optical products.
• Utilize traffic‑generator tools such as IXIA or Spirent to validate network protocols.
• Document test results, debug issues, and contribute to quality‑assurance processes.

Required profile

• Recent graduate (within 3 years) or currently enrolled with expected completion within 12 months, or equivalent experience.
• Legal right to work in the United States without visa sponsorship.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities with attention to detail.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills and ability to work in a team.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Python; familiarity with Java, C/C++ or Bash is a plus.
• Understanding of Linux operating systems and networking concepts.
• Knowledge of network protocols such as TCP/IP, ISIS, OSPF, BGP, MPLS.
• Experience with automation testing, test case development, regression testing, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Exposure to traffic‑generator tools like IXIA or Spirent.
